We have a senior civil design engineer vacancy for the right candidate. We are looking for a talented, bright, and dynamic civil engineer to join our team; a person who loves a technical challenge to drive our designs forward. Ideally with a water, wastewater or utilities background, we are looking for an individual with a sound practical understanding of outline and detailed design who is great at communicating and influencing others with those brilliant ideas and who really understands how to think big. EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW There are around , sewage treatment works within the Severn Trent Water region treating flows from hamlets through to some of Britain’s largest cities. Our Design Team uses their technical skills to shape the wastewater strategies for the company; providing expert advice to lead projects from feasibility through to detailed design to support the Severn Trent goals. You will work with our stakeholders, consultants and contractors to protect and enhance the quality of our waste treatment assets and rivers; interrogate and make improvements to our data systems; undertake investigations so that we have the best evidence available from which we can make sound decisions. If you join Severn Trent, you can expect to use your technical skills to work across several different areas, including: Sewage treatment assets - understanding our existing assets, completing risk assessments and short to long-term complex investigations. Developing strategies to allow us to enhance the existing assets and inform the Price Review regulatory submissions; collaborating across the business as we build our river quality, sustainability and net zero carbon plans influencing the business to transition away from traditional investment routes. Working within a multi-disciplinary design team, undertake the civil engineering design on your portfolio of projects. Coordinate the design across the different disciplines for your portfolio of projects. Carry out self-led research on emerging technologies, to define new innovative treatment options and to collaborate both internally and externally to promote new strategies. Promoting our ongoing waste treatment capital maintenance programme; ensuring that we have robust evidence-based understanding of how our waste treatment sites work to ensure final effluent quality is maintained. Tactical support and advice to operational teams to maintain the availability and quality of our waste treatment services for our customers. WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE For this senior design engineer role, we want to attract those with the right experience but we also value character, positivity, and a caring attitude in equal weight. With skill sets in mind, we need a qualified civil design engineer with a proven track record in water, wastewater, or utility design. You will have a degree in an engineering discipline (or similar) and a hold a breadth of knowledge and experience in the following areas: Significant experience in water, wastewater, sludge treatment or process technology Understanding of core design and commissioning principles in water, wastewater, or sludge. Proven analytical skills. Significant risk management knowledge and understanding. Experience of successful team-working An understanding of the construction (design and management) regulations and how these apply to our designs. Track record of technical development A track record of collaborative working with partner organisations and stakeholders. An understanding of the water industry and the regulatory price review.
